ABOUT

Mission

As a coalition of professional organizations, our mission is to harness the collective experience, expertise and influence of local, non-profit, human services providers to drive advocacy for improvements in our industry at a local, state and federal level.

History/Progress

The Conference of Allegheny Providers (CAP) began in 1987.

During its infancy, CAP consisted solely of leadership from a handful of agencies designated as Base Service Units.

In the second year, CAP membership was opened to all agencies that had a contract with the County Department of Human Services and were a 501(c)(3) organization. Initially, only the Executive Committee met and when necessary would meet with County officials on behalf of the entire membership.

Today, as a coalition, we partner with entities such as the Allegheny County Office of Behavioral Health, Community Care Behavioral Health Organization and Allegheny Health Choices.

CAP consists of sub-committees representing disciplines pertinent to all members: Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Children’s, Legislative, and Human Resources. Sub-committees meet and report their work to the entire body of member representatives monthly. Additionally, all activity is guided by the executive committee that represents the entire body to County and State officials.
